3 Tips for Submitting a Travel Claim

If you are ever required to submit a travel claim, remember to follow these three tips to ensure that your claim will go through:
1. Report a loss or theft to the nearest police authority and request a copy of the report. For lost or damaged luggage, request a receipt from the airline or luggage handler.
2. Complete and return your claim form to your insurer with all the relevant paperwork, photographs, and police or medical reports attached. Keep photocopies of all the documents and send the claim by recorded delivery in case it is lost in the post.
3. After the claim has been submitted, record each phone call (when it occurred and who you talked to) with your insurance provider.
In the event that your claim is rejected, you can appeal the decision. However, to succeed in your appeal, you will need to produce additional evidence. If your request for an appeal is denied or your appeal fails, contact the Financial Ombudsman Service for assistance.
